i was actually super proud with the rendering on the back, a little bummed it doesnt really show through with the tattoo on it haha. but hey, its all about the final product.

Still my favorite story from the Lord of the Rings set: Viggo Mortensen bonded so much with the horse he rode in the movies that after filming was over he bought it from its owner. If that doesn’t warm your heart I don’t know what could.

don’t forget that he also bought arwen’s horse for her stunt rider when she couldn’t afford it awww

#also don’t forget that for the rohirrim they put a call out for locals #bring a horse show us you can ride it and get a part in the battle scenes #and one women went out roped a wild horse and rode for a few days to set #and got to be a rider of rohan

also sort of relevant viggo also bought the horse that costarred with him in the movie hidalgo and subsequently took the horse (tj) with him to the red carpet premier.

Also most of the Riders of Rohan are actually women because when they put out that call mostly women showed up with their horses and the costume team just stuck beards on them.

I think there are certainly some parallels between this and what I’m trying to do with Anything That Loves, in that I’m trying to move away from labels that keep people separate.

I suppose what Rick Remender was trying to do is talk about this reduction that often happens—for instance, when journalists ask people “what’s it like being a woman in comics?” or describe an actor as “openly gay actor [so and so]”—and wanting to move away form that oversimplification of who people are.

I deliberately didn’t use the word “bisexual” as the term to describe the creators and/or material in Anything That Loves, but some people do use it, and it’s certainly valid as a descriptor for what the book is about. It’s just that I want to focus on the commonalities rather than reduce everything to a category.

But Remender has done something a little inelegant in that he is turning a descriptive word into an epithet that shouldn’t ever be used.

It’s as if the people in the examples above said, “I think the word ‘woman’ is divisive”, or “please don’t call me gay”. It adds this element of shame about something that’s perfectly natural and ordinary and puts even more emphasis on it instead of less.

X-Men 173 By Paul Smith. Rarely acknowledged enough among fan-favorite X-artists. Cockrum and Byrne may have built the world, but IMO Smith’s brief run set the tone for the 80s when the X-Men were sophisticated and complicated despite wearing spandex.
